One of my favorite memories growing up was sitting on my couch watching The Muppets with my dad. The movies were just so classic and I can’t count the number of times I have made my kiddos watch one of the old Muppet movies, just so that I could relive my childhood.
When I heard that they were making a new Muppets movie I was so excited! I couldn’t wait to share my love for The Muppets with my kids with a Muppet Movie that was all theirs. Well much to my dismay when it was out in theaters my kids wanted NOTHING to do with it and if they weren’t going to watch I wasn’t going to dish out all the money to go to the theater to watch it.
So I waited patiently and today it was released on Redbox! I knew that it would go fast in our area so I reserved it at a local Redbox this morning so when we were out this afternoon I would be sure to get a copy! And I wouldn’t have to travel to 10 different stores!
I am certain that I was more excited to watch the movie than the kids were but they settled in with their candy and popcorn on the couch next to me and we watched.
The movie is rated PG but I feel like it is pretty appropriate for kids of all ages. I had no problems letting my 5 and 6 year olds watching it.
Along with the Muppet Cast which of course includes Kermit, Piggy, Fonzie and all of your favorites, include new comer Walter, the cast of the movie included the wonderful Jason Segal and Amy Adams.
I LOVE Jason Segal in this roll, despite his complete and udder lack of dancing skills he was an amazing addition to this movie. Oh and Amy did a pretty good job too. Jason plays Gary, the brother of Muppet Walter. While Walter and Gary are quite obviously VERY different (one’s a Muppet and one is Human) they are as close as close. When Gary plans a “romantic” getaway with longtime girlfriend Mary (Adams) he decides that it would be a good idea to bring his Muppet loving brother Walter along for the ride. When Gary finds out that a greedy Oil Tycoon (Chris Cooper) is planning on tearing down the Muppet Theater to drill for oil, he sets out on his mission to get The Muppets back together and save The Muppet Theater.
I thought that the movie was very funny! It was full of silly Muppet humor, and a little satire. I love that they talk about the movie all the time like it is a movie. Making mention of having enough money in the budget for a large explosion and such. The cast was of course hilarious, both Muppets and Humans. The music and dancing were a lot of fun and part of what makes the Muppet movies great. They even did a version of Rainbow Connection! My favorite however I think had to be the Barbershop Quartet with the shrunken Jack Black head.
If you haven’t seen this movie yet you should really take this opportunity to visit your local Redbox and rent it. Well worth it!
I would give this movie a #CouchCritics 5 out of 5 couches!

In addition to watching the Muppet movie we also made a fun Muppet inspired Puppet! While we were out shopping we picked up some Elmers Glitter Paint Pens and had fun decorating our brown bags to look like crazy Muppet Puppets!
I think they came out super cute!
