Crafting Fun With PVC

I’m always looking for new mediums to use for crafting!  The hardware store can be such a great place to get inspiration.  This week I was at the hardware store looking at grills and happened upon the PVC pipes and fittings.  I have worked with PVC on other projects around the house and know that it is super easy to work with and it gives you a ton of options when it comes to sizes and shapes!  You don’t even have to have any fancy tools!  Just a saw and a little man power.

I came home and started to look for some ideas for my PVC inspiration.

These camp chairs by Simple Simon and Co are super cute and very easy to make!  Would it be fun if you could figure out how to add a back to them too?

What kid wouldn’t love to run around the backyard and shooting marshmallows at his or her siblings?  This Marshmallow shooter by Family Fun Crafts would be a load of fun!

When I started researching these projects I was really surprised to see how far Schedule 80 PVC pipe has come! They even make a schedule 80 CPVC pipe that is designed to handle even the most extreme circumstances!  Chances are your crafts won’t be handling 200 degree temps or running with a 850psi! but someday you may have a project that does require that and its nice to know that you don’t have to spend more money on copper or steel pipes!

Here are a few more PVC pipe ideas!

I’m not sure that I am nearly this creative or patient but the folks at Platform Design sure are!  This would be super cool to have out on a screened in porch!

You can even build the kiddos a little play tent just like the one here from CraftGossip.com

What is your favorite crafting medium?  What kind of things could you make out of PVC pipe?

My hubby made a marshmallow shooter like that for my nephew for Christmas, he loves it. I really like the camp chairs idea!

  2. I made planters – the PVC was thicker and we had a good 3+ feet per planter. Then we planted the plants in upside down off the deck. They looked fine… the plants however grew but never made any veggies … inspiration was the upside down tomato planters that you see.
Failed because of not enough sunlight – IMO. Not because of a bad design (smile).

  4. That’s awesome! I used to use PVC pipe to create displays for my craft shows. I’ve considered making the kids a little theater out of PVC so they can put on plays… but they may be getting too old for that?

pretty awesome!! it seems like you could probably use one of the triple-splitter dealies used in the marshmallow shooter (also totally rad! :D ) you could probably do a back for the chair pretty easily! the icicle pvc chair is amazing.. i’m not a huge fan of plastic, but it is quite aesthetically pleasing, especially with the little cushion of plastic beads!! :) i have seen some pretty awesome didjeridoos made of pvc, but have never used pvc for any crafting myself… i love collage & sewing (though am just starting out with the sewing thing though seem to have a little genetic memory on the subject ;] )..i just found a pile of old t-shirts that i need to re=imagine as well, which sometimes just takes cutting & poking holes~ not even any sewing involved!! really i just like playing :)
