My family is full of allergy sufferers. My husband and my 5 year old both have horrible indoor and outdoor allergies. The kicker to it all is that they also both LOVE animals. In fact we have a husky mix and a cat in our house, which more or less means if I’m not vacuuming several times a day they suffer. Just one day of missed allergy meds can send them into a tailspin and make everyone’s (including mine) day horrible!
I was recently sent a Fellowes AP-300PH to test out in our home and I have to say I was SHOCKED at the difference that it has made for my boys!
This Air Purifier has a ton of great features. First off as you can see from the picture it has a great digital display that shows you 1) The current air quality around your unit, 2) The current state of your filter, and 3) The speed that your unit is currently running at. It is designed to purify a room up to 900 square feet. We have it currently sitting in our living room and it does a great job.
The unit has a True HEPA Filter that removes 99.97% of all of the “bad” stuff in the air. Everything from Pet Dander, Mold Spurs, Pollen, Dust Mites, Cigarette Smoke, Odors and other Allergens. One of the things that really interested me when I heard about the product was its ability to remove odors from the air. I get the dust mites and allergens and everything else, but the odors really through me for a loop so I had to give it a try.
The day after we got the unit and had it up and running my husband was doing some sanitizing around the house because we were just getting over some colds, so he had the Clorox wipes out and was well more or less making the house smell like bleach. It was then that I looked over at the unit and noticed that the air quality sensor had changed from green all the way to red! It had detected the odor in the air and had kicked into high gear to clear it out!
The two pictures in this post were taken about 30 seconds part. I opened up the container of wipes and with in seconds of placing next to the filter it picked up the odor and started to clear it out of the air.
One of the things that I really love about this unit is that it comes with an “auto” feature. When you turn it on, it will set to auto and adjust as needed to clear the air. This means that I don’t have to adjust the level of the filter if the air quality gets bad. It will automatically go into high and then come back down when the air quality improves.
The only down side I have to the machine is that when it does go on high or turbo it is pretty loud. At all other times it seems to work just fine.
So if you have a family with really bad allergies or you just want to help keep down the odor of poopy diapers (yes, it even picks up poopy diaper smells!) this air purifier is great!
