Tailor Made Momma Disclosure: I received free admission to the Discovery Place in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are 100% mine.
Every year as the kids have gotten older we have tried to do something fun and exciting for their birthdays. This past September my oldest son turned 8 and it just happened to be his Golden Birthday so we thought it would be fun to take the boys (and girl) up to Charlotte for a few days. While we were there we had the opportunity to visit Discovery Place Charlotte and it didn’t fail to amaze.
Being from Chicago I have high expectations when it comes to museums, especially those designed with kids in mind. Discovery Place not only met those expectations but it FAR surpassed them. When you first walk you are greeting with an array of fun lighted signs that give off all kids of special light effects. The kids really loved watching them change color.
The first room we walked into was actually designed especially for the little ones in the group. With a water table, and a bunch of building and noise making toys it was perfect for the wanna be big kid in your group. My three year old had a blast, but the best part was that my 7 and 8 year olds had a good time in there too! While they did need to be a little more reserved than they would have liked to have been because of the little ones around them they still had a ton of fun banging on different household items to see what kind of sound they would make.
My boys are very hands on. They always feel the need to touch everything and at Discovery Place I never had to tell them no. From a small touch tank with different sea creatures that they could touch to a architecture area that let you design your own home layout or even your own building out of wood blocks. One of my favorite places to explore was the area full of different physics experiments, that even had a working bed of nails that you could try out!
I literally had to drag my boys out of the building! If they could have I think they would have found a place to sleep and stayed the night. *HINT HINT* They should totally do a lock in! There will be no shortage of things for the entire family to enjoy. Everyone from my 2 1/2 year old up my husband and myself really enjoyed every minute of our trip and only wish that we had more time to spend exploring.
